Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to his Canadian mom, Candace, and a Nigerian dad, Chuba proudly displays his multiple heritage. The mother of four, Candace who originally belongs to Manitoba, raised him with financial difficulties initially.
Later she settled with her second husband, Lester Yearwood, and her son in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. Initially, he attended Bev Facey Community High School while playing Canadian football. Undoubtedly, it demonstrates that he has Canadian roots and ethnicity.
When he arrived in Oklahoma, his football career did not begin well. Earlier, Chuba Hubbard himself revealed the most humbling experience of his life. The former OSU player finished last on the depth chart and red-shirted his freshman year.
Just like other Canadian high school players, Hubbard also found it difficult to transition to American football rules. Attempting to catch up on lifting weights became the most challenging experience for him. Also, being separated from his family and mother for the first time took an emotional toll on Chuba.
John Wozniak, OSU RB coach also shed light on his transition from Canadian football to American football in an interview dated June 2021. “He had a lot to learn and just from Canadian football to American football was a whole different world for him,” he continued. “Having to learn how to pass protect and some of the nuances of the game. He was really raw when he got here.” But, now establishing himself as an NFL player truly demonstrates that his Canadian roots and ethnicity inspired him to achieve his athletic aspirations.

Owing to his parents’ nationality, Chuba Hubbard holds a Canadian nationality. Originally hailing from a Canadian province east of Alberta, Manitoba, the NFL QB has grown up in the Canadian culture in Sherwood Park with his Canadian mom. His love for Canadians is also not a hidden fact.

The NFL RB never fails to adore Canadian talent, showing his Canadian roots.During week 9, when all five Canadian touchdowns garnered attention in the early hours of the Sunday game, Hubbard immediately praised the Canadian players.

“To see the acknowledgment of the talent that is in Canada finally make it over here and (Canadians doing) great things at the highest level, with some of these guys being my friends, is awesome,” he remarked during an interview dated November 2024. “You grow up playing against these guys and had this dream together. For us to be able to do it, and go through all these ups and downs, and then play each other on a Sunday is a blessing,” he further added. It showcased his affection for his native country Canada.
And, while he chose to represent Canada in high school, he also cherishes his American heritage during his time at OSU and the NFL. Such appreciation of his heritage comes from his parents, for which he is eternally grateful.
