US and Canadian cricketers arrive to play in new tournament

US player Ali Sheikh to feature in Americas Select Team

Players from across the Americas region have arrived on island in advance of the new BCB tournament, which takes place in Bermuda next week.

The ICC Select Team will compete in a series of matches against a Bermuda select XI, St George’s and Somerset’s Cup Match team The series kicks off on Wednesday, September 11, with the tourists taking on some of Bermuda’s best at the National Sports Centre at 3.30pm.

US players Ali Sheikh, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Kwame Patton Jr, Vatsal Vaghela, and Aarin Nadkarni have made the trip to Bermuda alongside Phillip Stroud, a left-handed all-rounder from Falkland Islands, and Argentina’s Tomas Rossi and Alan Kirschbaum . Luiz Muller of Brazil will be looking to add to his growing reputation.

Cricket Canada will provide Yuvraj Samra (opening batter) and are looking to add an opening pace bowler to the squad, with the team completed by Marc Taylor of Bahamas, who will add more firepower to the team.

Renowned cricket coach Mahesh Hatkar, from India, will guide the team and use the series to scout Bermuda’s players. He has worked with the BCB senior men’s team in India and is now offering his expertise to the under-19 men’s national select team.

“Cricket fans across the island have a great opportunity to see top-level international talent. I encourage everyone to come out and support our Bermuda Select Team and these exciting international teams. This is a fantastic moment for cricket in Bermuda, and we look forward to showcasing our local talent and the beautiful game to the world.”
