Tuesday, Two Former SUU Football Standouts Selected In CFL Draft By Calgary – Mid-Utah Radio

TORONTO-Tuesday evening, a pair of former Southern Utah football standouts, offensive lineman Christy Nkanu and tight end Tanner McLachlan, were drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League Draft.

Nkanu was selected at No. 8 overall in the first round by Calgary. Nkanu was drafted out of Washington State by the squad but he spent the 2018-22 seasons with the Thunderbirds.

While at SUU, the Los Angeles native was named to the all-WAC first team in 2022 by The Bluebloods, the official podcast of FCS Football Central on Sports Illustrated/Fan Nation.

McLachlan was selected with the 51st overall selection (6th Round) by the Stampeders.

McLachlan, a native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, played for the Thunderbirds from 2018-21, recording 12 receptions for 120 yards and 2 TD’s in 2020-21 at SUU.

McLachlan then walked on at Arizona and in 2022 and 2023, netted 79 receptions for 684 yards and 2 TD’s for the Wildcats.

This past weekend, McLachlan was selected in the 6th Round of the NFL Draft (No. 194 overall) by the Cincinnati Bengals as well.
