The Saskatoon Hilltops have placed 12 players among the 2024 Canadian Junior Football League’s Prairie Football Conference all-star squad and all-rookie team.

The Saskatoon Hilltops have placed 12 players among the 2024 Canadian Junior Football League’s Prairie Football Conference all-star squad and all-rookie team.

Leading the way on offence is graduating quarterback Trey Reider, a unanimous PFC all-star selection.

The two-time PFC all-star completed a conference-high 64.3 per cent of his passing attempts, as he was good on 119 passes for 1,685 yards and 17 touchdowns for a passer efficiency rating of 119.8.

For the second straight year, Reider is joined by offensive lineman Cody Shumanski.

Other PFC all-stars on offence are running back Corbin Ebben, and receivers Drake Douglas and Datiel Fountaine.

Ebben won the PFC rushing crown with 964 yards and six TDs on 157 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per carry.

Douglas is s PFC all-star for the second consecutive season. He led the conference in receptions (58), targets (77), receiving yards (955) and touchdowns (8).

It was a breakout year for Fountaine, who was part of the PFC all-rookie team last year. He followed up his rookie campaign with 23 receptions for 338 yards and six touchdowns.

Defensively, the Toppers placed four on the PFC all-star squad led by dominating D-linemen Jonathon Stevens and Kai Kukurudza.

Stevens, a two-time PFC all-star, tallied 12 solo tackles, had nine assisted stops, three sacks, a fumble recovery and pass knockdown.

Kukurudza, who has taken over from Riece Kack as the team’s sack specialist, led the conference with seven sacks to go along with 14 tackles, eight assisted stops, three knockdowns, two forced fumbles and a pass interception.

Middle linebacker Isaac Michayluk made 33 solo tackles, assisted on 27 others, knocked down a pass, and had an interception return for 14 yards.

Safety Dalton Urban, another two-time PFC all-star, collected three interceptions, recovered a fumble for a 39-yard touchdown, made 13 solo tackles, added nine assists, registered a sack, had three knockdowns and forced a fumble as the team’s big-play man on D.

Meanwhile, on special teams, Teijon Abel-Douglas is the PFC all-star punter. When called upon, he averaged 30.8 net yards with each boot. He recorded 39 punts over the course of the regular season.

Drake Douglas, already a PFC all-star on offence, was named the PFC’s top return specialist. He returned 38 kicks for the Hilltops this season for 342 yards.

The 2024 PFC all-rookie squad includes a pair of Hilltops in running back Brody Komarnicki and quarterback Charlie Molder.

EXTRA TOPPINGS: Edmonton Huskies defensive back/safety Tanner Berezowski, a Saskatoon product, was also named a 2024 PFC all-star. Berezowski had a fumble recovery for a 23-yard TD to go along with his 27 solo tackles, seven assisted tackles and knocked-down pass … The Regina Thunder, who will once again meet the Hilltops to decide the PFC champion, placed seven players on the PFC all-star and all-rookie teams. That included two on offence (O-lineman Caleb Barajas and running back Sadik Sadik), four on defence (D-linemen Luke Claude and Liam Sellwood, linebacker Stephen Smith and defensive back Adam King) and one on the rookie squad (O-lineman Tristen Rapchalk).
