Saskatoon Hilltops roll over Edmonton Wildcats to improve to 6-0

Next up for the Hilltops is a game Saturday night against the provincial rival Regina Thunder in Saskatoon that will likely decide first place and home-field advantage through the PFC playoffs

The Saskatoon Hilltops downed the visiting Edmonton Wildcats 45-19 Sunday at SMF Field to improve their Canadian Junior Football League Prairie Football Conference record to 6-and-0.

Next up for the Hilltops is a game Saturday night against the provincial rival Regina Thunder in Saskatoon that will likely decide first place and home-field advantage through the PFC playoffs. Game-time is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at SMF Field.

On Sunday, the Toppers racked up 467 yards in total offence on their way to victory over the winless Wildcats.

Quarterback Trey Reider completed 15 of 21 passing attempts for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Drake Douglas caught seven of those passes for 109 yards and three TDs. Xander Pierce added three receptions for 90 yards. Running back Corbin Ebben had three catches for 58 yards and a TD major.

Ebben also ran the ball 16 times for 108 yards and two TD majors. Charles Sawi contributed seven carries for 33 yards and one catch for 11 yards.

Kicker Teijon Abel-Douglas kicked six converts in the win.

For Edmonton, Marcos Soltero threw 37 passes, completing 27 of them for 374 yards and two TDs. Mekhi Tyrell had nine receptions for 125 yards and one TD. Mark Mryglod added six catches for 105 yards. Gabe Hiebert chipped in with seven receptions for 96 yards and a major.

Defensively, Justin Adamko and Nate Gallant each had an interception for the Toppers.

Defensive lineman Kai Kikurudza led the way in defensive points with a quarterback sack, forced fumble and pass knockdown to go with four tackles, two of them on special teams.

Linebacker Noah Gedir recorded five tackles, two of them for losses. Isaac Michalyuk had five solo tackles and one special teams assist.

Saskatoon led 8-3 after the opening quarter and 29-6 at half-time. The Hilltops carried a 45-6 lead going into the final quarter.

Surprisingly, time of possession was 52:53 for Edmonton compared to 35:44 for Saskatoon.
