Saad Zafar To Lead, Canada Announces 15-Member Squad For T20 World Cup 2024
Canada qualified for the T20 World Cup after they beat Bermuda (X)
The Associate nation of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Canada, has unveiled its 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Canada will be led by Saad Zafar, a Pakistani-Canadian, marking a historic moment as they compete in their first ICC trophy.
Canada made their historic qualification after they secured a vital victory against Bermuda in the decisive Americas Qualifier’s final game. After both teams were tied on points, Canada surged ahead of Bermuda in Net Run Rate (NRR), earning their qualification for the World Cup.
Canada has been actively preparing for the upcoming tournament with a series of T20 matches. However, their last series against the USA in April ended in disappointment as they lost the 5-match series 4-0, with one game being abandoned without bowling a ball.
Canada is in India’s group
The ICC T20 World Cup is set to be the largest ever, featuring 20 competing teams. These teams are divided into four groups, each comprising five teams.
Canada finds itself in a challenging group alongside cricket powerhouses like India and Pakistan, as well as the USA and Ireland.
In the inaugural match of the tournament on June 2nd, Canada will face USA. Later in the tournament, on June 15th, Canada will face the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma.
