The Ottawa Redblacks and defensive coordinator Barron Miles have “mutually agreed” to part ways.

“Barron has served our football club with class and professionalism over the last two seasons,” Redblacks head coach Bob Dyce said in a statement of Miles, who was hired on Dec. 5, 2022. “We thank him for his contributions to our team, and wish him nothing but the best going forward.”

In the nine-team CFL the Redblacks ranked sixth in offensive points allowed, sixth in opponents net offence, third in opponents rush yards, sixth in opponents passing yards and eight in opponents first downs.

Because of injuries, the Redblacks began the season without starting cornerbacks Brandin Dandridge and Alijah McGhee, and played a stretch of games without all three starting linebackers.

In losing five of their last six games — as well as the Eastern semifinal to the Argos by a score of 58-38 — the Redblacks were missing SAM linebacker Adarius Pickett, their best defensive player, as well as steady safety Alonzo Addae.

Miles, who as also worked as an assistant coach with the Lions, Blue Bombers, Alouettes, the Roughriders and Edmonton, was a standout defensive back in the CFL for 12 seasons.

He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

In other Redblacks news, receiver Justin Hardy, defensive lineman Lorenzo Mauldin IV and defensive back Damon Webb were named to the 2024 All-CFL team.
