Team Canada has officially been introduced to the world as part of the 2024 Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony. With 337 athletes representing the red and white this year — sporting their official Lululemon threads — it was Andre De Grasse of Markham, Ont., and Maude Charron of Rimouski, Que., who were the official flag bearers.

Paris’ opening ceremony is the first in history that is taking place outside of a stadium. Instead, a parade is held on the Seine River, as national delegations make their way through the centre of the city by boat. It gives the chance for everyone to enjoy, which includes some who were seen holding Canada flags amongst the large crowds of spectators.

Going from east to west over a six-kilometre route, the parade will finish at the Trocadéro, which overlooks the Eiffel Tower. From there, the opening ceremony’s finale will take place, which will include remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron. Along with the parade, performances are expected, with reports of Canadian icon Celine Dion making her return to the stage.
