Payday Issues For Scotiabank Customers: Canadian Bank’s App And Website Are Down

Scotiabank was down on Friday

Scotiabank confirmed reports of an outage on Friday, saying customers were ‘experiencing intermittent login issues when accessing their online accounts’. This comes as several Canadian employees reported issues on payday, August 30. The bank had experienced a major disruption in July, which affected direct deposits.

“Some customers may be experiencing intermittent login issues when accessing their online accounts, there is no impact to direct deposit or other services,” a Scotiabank spokesperson wrote in an email to CTV News. “Our teams are working hard to resolve the issue as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.”

As of 3:00 PM local time in Nova Scotia, Downdetector – a platform that tracks online outages – showed more than 1000 reports on Scotiabank. According to the site’s data, customers faced issues in ‘online banking’, ‘mobile login’ and ‘mobile banking’. People across Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, the Atlantic region and the Prairies were affected.

In July, roughly 5000 Downdetector reports were resgistered. “It’s a struggle to make ends meet,” CTV News quoted a Halifax customer service associate then. “If the situation isn’t resolved soon, I’m going to have to figure out how I am going to eat tonight and bills are going to go unpaid,” Matthew Lonar added in the email.

“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience the earlier technical issue has had on our clients, and sincerely appreciate their patience as we worked through this,” a bank spokesperson told CTV News in a July email.

The cause of the outage on Friday has not been revealed yet.
