Paris 2024 Day 2 Preview: Ten sports on schedule for busy Canadian Paralympic Team – Canadian Paralympic Committee

– Preliminary play continues for many sports; medal rounds in Para swimming, Para cycling, and Para athletics  

Paris, August 29, 2024 – Canada enters the second day of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with two medals. There is plenty more action on tap with Canadians competing across 10 sports on Friday August 30. Here is the Canadian Paralympic Team lineup for Day 2:   

Para Swimming  
Canada’s Para swimming entries on Friday are highlighted by Canada’s co-flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony Katarina Roxon. The Rio 2016 gold medallist will compete in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB8 heats at 11:18 a.m. CEST / 5:18 a.m. ET. 

First-time Paralympian Sebastian Massabie will lead off for the Canadians in the pool, racing in the men’s 100m freestyle S4 heats at 9:48 a.m. CEST / 3:48 a.m. ET. He will be followed by Fernando Lu in the men’s 100m breaststroke SB9 heats.  

Massabie, Philippe Vachon, Hannah Oullette, and Aly Van Wyck-Smart will also join forces for the mixed 4x50m freestyle relay heats.  

Swim finals for those who qualify then start later in the day at 5:30 p.m. CEST / 11:30 a.m. ET.  

Para Cycling Track  
Keely Shaw will race in the women’s C4 3000m individual pursuit qualifying at 12:15 p.m. CEST / 6:15 a.m. ET. She was a bronze medallist in this event at Tokyo 2020. She will be followed by teammate Alexandre Hayward, making his Paralympic debut, in the men’s C3 individual pursuit at 1:27 p.m. CEST / 7:27 a.m. ET.   

The top four finishers in qualifying will advance to their respective gold and bronze medal races. Finals will start at 3:17 p.m. CEST / 9:17 a.m. ET.   

Para Athletics  
Canada’s Para track and field athletes will head to Stade de France for their first day of competition. Four athletes will be in action. In the morning, Charlotte Bolton will compete in the women’s F41 shot put and Anthony Bouchard will race in the men’s T52 400m heats.  

If Bouchard qualifies for the final, it will run later in the evening at 7:12 p.m. CEST / 1:12 p.m. ET.  

Also set for the later session is Amanda Rummery in the women’s T47 400m heats at 8:18 p.m. CEST / 2:18 p.m. ET. Next up will be 11-time Paralympic medallist Brent Lakatos, making his sixth Paralympic Games appearance. His first event in Paris will be the men’s T54 5000m heats at 9:02 p.m. CEST / 3:02 p.m. ET.  

Goalball  
Canada, 1-0 after the first day of play, will next face Japan at 2:45 p.m. CEST / 8:45 a.m. ET as the group stage continues in the women’s goalball tournament.  

Wheelchair Rugby  
Canada’s wheelchair rugby team will be looking for its first victory after a close opening day loss to USA. The squad will take on Germany at 5:30 p.m. CEST / 11:30 a.m. ET.   

Para Archery  
Kyle Tremblay is through to the elimination rounds in the Para archery men’s compound open, starting at 3:30 p.m. CEST / 9:30 a.m. ET.  

Para Rowing  
Jacob Wassermann will race in his first Paralympic Games with the PR1 men’s single sculls heats starting at 10:10 a.m. CEST / 4:10 a.m. ET.  

Boccia  
Preliminary play continues in the individual boccia tournaments. Leading the way is Alison Levine in the women’s BC4 category, currently with a 1-1 record. She will face Ukrainian Nataliia Konenko at 5 p.m. CEST / 11 a.m. ET.  

Danik Allard, Iulian Ciobanu, and Lance Cryderman are looking for their first victories. Allard plays at 12:50 p.m. CEST / 6:50 a.m. ET versus Indonesia’s Felix Ardi Yudha and again at 7:20 p.m. CEST / 1:20 EST against China’s Yan Zhiqiang in men’s BC2 competition. Men’s BC4 player Iulian Ciobanu will take on Malaysian Abdul Razzaq Abdul Rahman at 10:30 a.m. CEST / 2:30 a.m. ET. Cryderman closes out the day opposite Hong Kong’s John Loung in men’s BC1 action at 8:30 p.m. CEST / 2:30 p.m. ET.  

Wheelchair Basketball  
Canada’s men’s wheelchair basketball team, featuring flag bearer Anderson, will open its Paris 2024 tournament against host country France at 6:15 p.m. CEST / 12:15 p.m. ET.  

Para Badminton  
Yuka Chokyu continues group play in Para badminton. She will face Brazilian Daniele Torres Souza not before 12:30 p.m. CEST / 6:30 a.m. ET in the hopes of posting her first win of Paris 2024.
