MEN’S TENNIS FALL SHORT IN CANADIAN UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP SEMIFINAL – University of Toronto Athletics

Facing off against the UBC Thunderbirds, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s tennis team fell 6-1 in a national semifinal match at the Canadian University Tennis Championships in Montreal on Saturday (Aug. 10).

In three extremely tight doubles contests to open up the final four showdown, U of T was able to grab one victory as partners Arden D’Aniello and Alec Luchak claimed an 8-6 win over their UBC opponents. However, the Thunderbirds No. 1 and No. 2 doubles team earned wins to secure the team doubles point overall for the west coast squad.

Then shifting to singles action, D’Aniello continued his strong play for the Blues, earning a 6-4 singles win to capture what would be Toronto’s lone score of the match-up.

On the other side of the draw, Laval knocked off Dalhousie with a 7-0 sweep, setting up a bronze medal showdown between the Blues and Tigers on Sunday (Aug. 11) morning. The podium contest will begin at 9 a.m. in Montreal.
