London Knights named to Canada’s world junior summer camp

The London Knights will send an incredible four players to the Canadian national junior team summer showcase being held July 28-Aug. 3 in Windsor and Plymouth, Mich.

Forwards Easton Cowan and Denver Barkey will join defencemen Oliver Bonk and Sam Dickinson at the camp, which serves as an early talent identifier for the world junior team heading to Ottawa this year.

Cowan (Maple Leafs) and Bonk (Flyers), both NHL first-rounders, played for Canada last year. Barkey (Flyers) was a late cut for the team while Sam Dickinson will challenge for a spot after being selected No. 11 by San Jose in the NHL draft last month.

Londoner Jett Luchanko, a Jr. Knights grad who plays for the Guelph Storm, also got the call after being picked 13th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers at last month’s NHL draft.

Jr. Knights grad Ryan Roobroeck, a Niagara IceDogs sniper, and Kitchener defenceman Cameron Reid of Aylmer, were named to the Canadian under-18 selection camp ahead of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup set for Aug. 5-10 in Edmonton. The camp will be held July 27-20 in Calgary.

Seven players with local ties will attend the Canadian national under-17 development camp starting Thursday at Joshua’s Creek arenas in Oakville. Jr. Knights grads Carter Hicks (drafted by the Windsor Spitfires), Eric Frossard (Guelph Storm), Ethan Dean (Sudbury Wolves), Parker Vaughan (Barrie Colts), Komoka native Beckham Edwards (drafted by Sarnia Sting, signed by Youngstown Phantoms) and Knights first-rounder Logan Hawery and defenceman prospect Caleb Mitchell will try to crack rosters for the World Under-17 Challenge, which is scheduled to be held Nov. 1-9 in Sarnia.
