Regina Riot
The Regina Riot are off to the Western Women’s Canadian Football League final.
The Riot beat the Calgary Rage on the weekend in the WWCFL semifinal and will now face the Saskatoon Valkyries on Sunday for the league championship. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Leibel Field in Regina.
In the semifinal, quarterback Aimee Kowalski threw touchdowns to Hope Jordens and Bethany O’Toole in the first quarter, while Jacey Goebel took an interception to the end zone in the second quarter.

Before the half was up, Goebel then chipped in offensively as she caught a touchdown pass to give Regina a 27-0 lead at the half. Calgary conceded a safety in the second half to conclude the scoring.
In the regular season, the Riot lost twice to the undefeated Valkyries.
Regina Red Sox
The Regina Red Sox went a perfect 6-0 over the last week in Western Canadian Baseball League.
After picking up a 17-12 win over the Swift Current 57s, Regina beat the host Weyburn Beavers 12-6 on Wednesday before topping the Moose Jaw Miller Express 4-3 on Thursday.
Regina then beat the Medicine Hat Mavericks 9-2 on Friday before picking up back-to-back 7-4 wins against the Sylvan Lake Gulls on the weekend.
With a 13-5 record, the Red Sox occupy top spot in the WCBL’s East Division. Jackson Syring is leading the way offensively for Regina with a league-high 30 hits and 29 runs in 72 at-bats. The Kansas native also leads the team with four home runs and 22 RBIs, along with a .417 batting average.
The Red Sox are back in action on Wednesday when they visit Weyburn, before returning home to Currie Field for a two-game series against the Brooks Bombers on Thursday and Friday, with both games getting underway at 7 p.m.

Regina will then visit the Saskatoon Berries on Saturday before hosting Moose Jaw on Sunday, with that game getting underway at 1 p.m.
The Regina Pats made a couple of roster moves over the last week.
The Pats announced 2004-born forward Brayden Barnett has cleared waivers and won’t be back with the team for the 2024-25 WHL season.
Barnett was eligible to return as one of three overage players next year. Regina is left with forwards Braxton Whitehead, Tye Spencer and Zane Rowan as potential 20-year-old options.
The Pats also made a trade last week as they sent 2006-born forward Raiden Zacharias to the Everett Silvertips in exchange for a conditional ninth-round draft pick in 2026.
The 18-year-old Zacharias was previously drafted by the Pats in the fourth-round of the 2021 WHL Draft. He has spent the last two seasons with the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA squad, while also suiting up for four games with the Pats during the 2021-22 season
Kings Park Speedway
The 2024 racing season is underway at Kings Park Speedway.
With two races in the books, the next event is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m.

Following this weekend, the “Invitational Race” will be held on June 29 and 30. Regular races are also scheduled for July 13, July 27, Aug. 17, Aug. 18 and Sept. 14 with action getting underway at 6 p.m. The 10th and final regular race of the year will be on Sept. 15.
There will be a kids race on July 14 at 2 p.m. while the “Drift Wars” event is scheduled for Aug. 3 and 4.
To wrap up the season, the “Run Your Junk” event is scheduled for Sept. 21 and the “Pumpkin Bash” will be held on Oct. 5.
Rugby scores
On Saturday in senior ladies’ rugby action, the Regina Ravens blanked the Saskatoon Wild Oat Women 75-0.
