Kishawn Walker signs with CFL’s Edmonton Elks
OWENSBORO, KY. (WFIE) – Many athletes dream of playing the sports they love professionally, but it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and it doesn’t hurt, to have the raw talent.
Well, all that describes Owensboro High School graduate, Kishawn Walker, to a tee. Walker has already accomplished part of his pro football dream, playing in the indoor league, but he’s about to take another step, up the professional ranks, as he just signed a contract, with the Canadian Football League’s, Edmonton Elks!
“I’m feeling good, feeling very ecstatic and grateful for the opportunity, so I’m just ready to get to training camp and make a show,” said Walker, an Owensboro HS & Kentucky Wesleyan graduate. “We were going to Arizona, and there were some CFL scouts in the stands, and I just happened to have a good game and they like what they saw, so they contacted me after the game and offered me a contract.”
After playing high school football at OHS, catching a crazy Hail Mary in a state semifinal playoff game for the Devils, Walker then had a prolific college football career, starring at Western Kentucky and then Kentucky Wesleyan, his last two years.
After graduation, he tried out for the Houston Texans and the XFL. He didn’t make it into either league, but soon-after, broke into the pros, in 2023, in the “Indoor Football League”, with the Northern Arizona Wranglers, and he made the IFL’s all-rookie team. The star defensive back then began this year, playing with the IFL’s San Diego Strike Force, and his strong play, got him noticed by the Edmonton Elks, who will start their 75th season, in the CFL.
“That’s all it’s about is perseverance and just dedication and not giving up. So many people will tell you to give up whenever something hits the fan or obstacles get in the way, so don’t ever do that until you’re ready to give up your dreams. I feel like that’s what everybody’s dream is, is to make it to the top level,” said Walker. “I’d like to think that I always had this capability and potential. Everybody that always believed in me, never gave up on me — I’m forever grateful for everybody who’s uplifted me throughout my journey.”
Walker reports to Edmonton in a couple weeks. The CFL preseason begins May 20, and the regular season begins in June. Best of luck to Walker!
