Jelly Roll talks hotel and travel habits, and Canadian poutine, with release of Hotels.com ‘Perfect 10’ series

Music star Jelly Roll was finally able to perform outside the U.S., making his Canadian concert debut earlier this month in St. Catharines, Ont. While his felonies prevented him from crossing the border, many Canadian were incredibly excited to finally be able to see the star put on a show.

But despite his roadblocks on performing internationally, Jelly Roll has toured extensively in the U.S., and continues to do so. With so much travel under her belt, the artist revealed his hotel preferences and most memorable hotel experiences while on the road for the Hotels.com “Perfect 10” series.

As he says in his video with Hotels.com, he’s come a “long way” in his touring accommodations, after previously sleeping in a van outside hotels, sneaking in for the continental breakfast in the morning, in the early days of his career.

Yahoo Canada asked Jelly Roll, the Tennessee native, five questions about travelling on tour, his hotel habits and coming to Canada for the first time.

What is the first thing you do when you get to a hotel room?

By the time I get back to the hotel from a show or studio and after events, usually sleep.

Now that you’ve finally been able to come to Canada to perform, what most excited you about the experience?

Visiting Canada was an incredible experience. The people and the reception was more than I could have ever expected. And I am officially a fan of poutine. Taking that home with me.

What are your recommendations for anyone visiting Nashville?

There are so many parts of Nashville to see. You have to go downtown and see the honkeytonks, it’s part of the fabric of the community in terms of the economy for those that live here and also those visiting. The incredible talent that is down there performing on a daily basis is unreal. Hotel wise, Nashville is the place I stay in a hotel the least, but the Four Seasons, Thompson, and some others are ones that we’ve been in more recently and have been newer additions to the city. Newer to me, since I grew up here.

What’s the most memorable city you’ve ever performed in and why?

There is nothing like performing in Nashville. Playing the Bridgestone Arena two years ago and selling that out for the first time was a stand out. And playing Nissan Stadium with CMA Fest this year, thats an incredible feeling.

What are three things that you never travel without?

I try and never travel without seeing local places in each market when we can. We try and get out and see the city or town, not just the back of the venue. Especially try to find a local juvenile centre or rehab that might be willing and able to let us come visit for the day before our show. That’s the honest answer. Other than that, I find a place to cold plunge and sauna. It’s become part of the routine of getting ready for each show and has been a game changer.

Jelly Roll revealed to Hotels.com that the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington D.C., get Bussie the Bus Dawg’s seal of approval with a “puppy minibar.” In Canada, the Paradox Hotel in Vancouver is ready to paper your pup with dog beds, bowls, treats, and doggy bags.

A fan of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Jelly Roll recommends the Glenstone Lodge, located less than a kilometre away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Canada’s Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff, Alta., will give you a similar vibe for your domestic stay, located atop Tunnel Mountain.
