Free support program: newcomer programmer analyst job in BC
Ozdemir Ozcelik arrived in Canada in 2019, holding a Master’s degree and five years of experience. The Canadian job market, however, presented unexpected challenges.
Understanding the need for new skills and adaptation, Ozcelik joined the Career Paths program at ISSofBC, encouraged by their spouse’s successful experience with the program. The initial meeting with the Career Strategist was pivotal, instilling confidence and outlining an action plan that included enhancing technical skills through courses and certifications.
Our ISSofBC Career Paths’ team can assist newcomers with credential evaluations and obtaining BC licenses, regulatory body, and association memberships, skills and course funding, job search support, work placement opportunities, connections to BC employers, access to BC mentors, and more.
“I met with my Employment Relations Specialist, Shaunah, who consistently emphasized that her guidance was more than finding employment. It was about equipping me with the fundamental tools for a prosperous, long-term career in Canada. She instilled the discipline and mindset to keep networking and searching for suitable jobs. She helped me find a mentor, join several events, and even hinted to apply for the position I got accepted.”
The Employment Relations Specialist further supported Ozcelik by emphasizing the importance of networking, continuous learning, and persistence. She guided the client in finding a mentor, attending professional events, and applying for relevant positions.
With the dedicated support from ISSofBC, Ozdemir secured a position as an Intermediate Programmer Analyst at BC Public Services.
“I am deeply grateful for the invaluable support and guidance I received throughout the program. It isn’t easy to fully express the assistance I received in the program, primarily from Career Strategist and Employer relation specialist, among many others. Thanks to their support, I feel confident navigating the Canadian job market to build a successful career”.
Ozcelik‘s story highlights the transformative power of education and support. It shows that with determination and the right guidance, newcomers can achieve their career goals. As Ozdemir continues to build a successful career in Canada, their journey inspires other newcomers to dream big and achieve their aspirations.
