Fantasy Golf Value Picks: Top DraftKings PGA TOUR DFS Bargain Plays for the RBC Canadian Open

The PGA TOUR travels from Texas to Canada this week for the RBC Canadian Open. For the seventh time, this event will be played at Hamilton Golf and Country Club (par 70, 7,084 yards, bentgrass greens) in Ancaster, Ontario. The previous editions of the Canadian Open that were held at Hamilton took place in 1919, 1930, 2003, 2006, 2012 and 2019, with Rory McIlroy winning that latter year at -22, seven shots clear of the field. Following the Irishman’s victory, the course was renovated under Martin Ebert, with the tee boxes, greens and bunkers being reconstructed. Still, the venue’s layout remains the same and course histories at Hamilton are still relevant for research this week. This week’s field consists of 156 golfers and there will be a normal top-65 and ties cut following the first 36 holes.

Hamilton is a short par 70, that features thick rough, large greens, 72 bunkers and water in play on only one hole. While McIlroy dominated this course with his driver in 2019 – he led the field in SG OTT and driving distance – any length of player can succeed at Hamilton, given we have seen short players like Jim Furyk and Scott Piercy also win at this track. As always, your work with your irons is extremely important at Hamilton and this is a course where being in strong form with your putter is critical. Each of the past two winners at Hamilton finished the week top-five in SGP. Furthermore, at the 2019 Canadian Open at this par 70, six of the top-10 finishers in SGP that week finished inside the top 10 on the leaderboard.

With Hamilton being a classic par 70 with 12 par fours and only two par fives, elite par four players need to be a priority this week and with five of the 12 par fours falling between 400-450 yards following the renovations in 2019, this is a certainly a range to focus at Hamilton. Of the four victors at this par 70, three finished the tournament top-five in par four efficiency.

Below, I have featured four of my favorite sub $7.5K DraftKings bargain plays for the RBC Canadian Open.

Doug Ghim ($7,400) – Ghim has been outstanding in Canada, finishing T18 and T12 at the last two Canadian Opens and enters this week as the maker of 10-of-15 cuts this season. Six of these finishes have been top-30 results and Ghim ranks 18th in SGT2G for the season, which is the highest he has ever ranked in the major metric during his seven-year career on the PGA TOUR.

Ghim boasts the best odds to win the RBC Canadian Open of any golfer priced under $7.5K at +6500 on the DraftKings Sportsbook and is an easy choice at this affordable salary.

Adam Svensson ($7,300) – Regardless that he missed the cut in his lone appearance at Hamilton in 2019, Svensson is one of the best values available this week. The Canadian is coming off a T24 at the Charles Schwab Challenge last week, in which he gained strokes in every major category at Colonial CC, except around the greens. This finish extended his made-cut streak to seven in a row and during this stretch, Svensson’s irons have been terrific, with him gaining strokes on approach at six of these seven events.

Svensson ranks fourth in SG APP when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and he has top-20 upside if his strong putting form from the Charles Schwab Challenge carries over to Hamilton.

Kevin Tway ($6,700) – Very quietly, Tway is having an impressive season. The veteran has only missed one cut in seven starts and he has carded a top-25 finish in three of his past four solo starts. Tway’s putter has been excellent – he has gained strokes with his flat stick in four of his past five starts – and he ranks seventh in par four efficiency when we analyze this field’s last 24 rounds, setting him up perfectly for Hamilton.

Tway finished T44th in his lone start at this par 70 in 2019 and is a great bargain at this sub $7K salary.

Patton Kizzire ($6,300) – Kizzire’s game has come alive as of late and the veteran is vastly underpriced for his compelling form. Kizzire has finished T23, T24 and T10 in his last three solo starts while gaining strokes on approach and with his putter at all these events. Additionally, Kizzire has shot under par in all but one of his 12 rounds during this impressive run and he has led the field in par four efficiency at two of these three tournaments.

Kizzire has never missed a cut at a Canadian Open in two appearances at the event and is an elite value play at this low salary, that most DFS players will likely overlook.
