LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV defensive back Jett Elad is one of five finalists for the Jon Cornish Trophy, which is annually awarded to the top Canadian football player competing on the NCAA level. This marks the second consecutive year he has made the list.
Elad (Mississauga, Ontario) is joined by Stanford wide receiver Elic Ayomanor (Medicine Hat, Alberta), Boise State safety Ty Benefield (Vancouver), Rutgers linebacker Dariel Djaborne (Longueuil, Quebec) and Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke (Oakville, Ontario).
A former player at Ohio, Elad returned to the FBS level last fall with the Rebels after a stint at Garden City Community College in Kansas. As a senior this season he earned Honorable Mention All-Mountain West after ranking third on the team with 85 total tackles. His impressive stat line included 6.0 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for the nationally ranked Rebels.
Presented annually since 2017, the Jon Cornish Trophy is awarded by a panel of voters across Canada consisting of Canadian journalists, player personnel evaluators from the Canadian Football League, and former NCAA players connected to Canada.
The winner of the 2024 Jon Cornish Trophy will be announced Monday at 10 am PT on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@gridironnationcanada.
