Egypt Lifts Advance Visa Requirements for Canadians
Canadian citizens travelling to Egypt will no longer have to apply for a visa in advance as of December 1, 2024.
The announcement of the return of electronic visas for Canadians was made last month, about a year after Egypt suspended the ability to obtain a visa online or upon arrival in the country.
Previously, Canadians had to pay $150 and mail in an application form, passport and itinerary to obtain a visa, which severely hampered tourism to the country.
“The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates announces that the Arab Republic of Egypt has decided to lift the pre-entry visa requirement currently imposed on Canadian citizens traveling to Egypt, thus allowing the issuance of a visa upon arrival at Egyptian ports of entry,” the ministry said in a Facebook update.
“This is in addition to the reactivation of the option to apply for and obtain an electronic visa (e-VISA). These measures will come into effect from December 1, 2024 for all Canadian citizens arriving in Egyptian territory from that date.”
