Did the Boomers win? Score, result from Australia men’s Olympic basketball match vs. Canada | Sporting News Australia

The Boomers’ toughest match of the group stage of the men’s basketball tournament sees them come up against Canada.

Australia performed strongly in their first match against Spain, winning 92-80 as Josh Giddey impressed in scoring and his ball movement.

It was always going to be a tougher test against a Canada side stacked with NBA talent and the belief they could make a deep run at the tournament.

Did the Boomers win against Canada?

The Boomers came up against a talented Canada outfit in their second game at the Paris 2024 and after a strong start, taking a four-point lead into half-time before, Canada rallied in the second half to secure a 93-83 win, outscoring Australia 48-34 after the main break.

RJ Barrett led Canada with 24 points, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting and Dillon Brooks added 16 as Canada to move to 2-0 in the group stage, putting them in strong contention to finish at the top of the group. 

For the Aussies, Josh Giddey led the offense, putting Australia on the front foot with 15 of his 19 points in the first half, while Jock Landale recorded a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double.

Dyson Daniels added 10 points, producing a strong defensive performance as the primary option against Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Boomers now fall to 1-1 with a matchup against Greece coming up next.
