Day 1 Preview of 2024 Olympic Games
The first day of the 2024 Olympic Games is set to begin on Saturday. Here are the most notable events worth watching. The sports I will keep an eye on from a Canadian standpoint are badminton, fencing, tennis, cycling, skateboarding, basketball, swimming, beach volleyball and surfing. Team Canada has a legitimate chance for two Olympic medals in swimming on Saturday. Summer McIntosh of Toronto, Ontario will be trying to win her first Olympic medal in the women’s 400m freestyle where she won the silver medal at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. The only swimmer in the pool faster than McIntosh on that day was American Katie Ledecky. The other swimmer to keep an eye on is world record holder Ariarne Titmus of Australia. Remember, Canada did damage in the women’s 4×100 metre freestyle in Tokyo too as they finished second behind Australia and ahead of the United States.
