Canadian Olympic gold medallists Maude Charron of Rimouski, Quebec and Andre de Grasse of Scarborough, Ontario will be the Canadian flag bearers in the Parade of Nations of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Friday. Charron won the gold medal in the women’s 64 weight class in weightlifting at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. De Grasse meanwhile is a six-time medalist.

De Grasse won three medals for Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and then three more medals at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. De Grasse’s medals in Rio came in the 100 metres (bronze), 200 metres (silver), and 4×100 metre relay (bronze). De Grasse’s medals in Tokyo came in the 100 metres (bronze), 200 metres (gold), and 4×100 metre relay (silver).

Heading into the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Charron will be competing in the women’s 59 kilogram weight class. That is because the weight class in the Olympic women’s 64 kilogram weight class no longer exists.

The opening ceremonies of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are unique. That is because they will not take place in a stadium. The ceremony will actually take place along the Seine River. The start time of the ceremony will be Friday morning at 11:30 am MT.
