Canadian Tire Golf Classic a huge success for Jumpstart

The 2nd Annual Canadian Tire Moose Jaw Golf Classic is in the books.

The tournament on July 19 featured a round of golf, live and silent auctions, a steak dinner, and a gala the night before.

Canadian Tire Moose Jaw Owner Ross Leckie said one of the highlights was having PWHL Ottawa player, Emily Clark as part of the event.

“She was at the Gala event, talked about her life and her pathway to playing hockey. On the course she was auctioned off and she played with a team on the course.”

“She’s a fantastic ambassador for Saskatchewan and as well for Hockey Canada, and she helped us out with Jumpstart as well.”

All funds raised stay in Saskatchewan, going towards Jumpstart, and the Moose Jaw and District Food Bank.

Sherry Matwe, General Manager of Canadian Tire Moose Jaw, says Jumpstart is all about giving kids and families in need of financial help to participate in activities.

“I’ve met coaches that really appreciate the cheques, I’ve met young people that have been able to play hockey along with their classmates because of Jumpstart. It just really enriches all the kids in the community locally here.”

Plans are already underway for next year’s edition of the Canadian Tire Golf Classic.

“We’re always taking notes whether it’s in the store or for something that we’re volunteering for, to make the next year a little more efficient or more opportunities to have fun,” said Matwe.
