CALGARY – Canada West announced the 2024 football all-star team Monday morning, and three members of the Calgary Dinos were selected.
Nate Beauchemin, Ben Britton and Liam Reid were all voted as top performers at their positions this season by the league’s coaches, with Beauchemin and Reid both being unanimous selections.
Beauchemin just finished up his fourth season on the field for the Dinos and is clearly one of the tops at his position in all of U SPORTS. The 6-foot-2 safety from Kelowna, B.C., tied his career high with four interceptions on the year – double the total of any other player in Canada West and tied for second most in all of U SPORTS. Beauchemin returned a pair of those picks for scores, which also led both the conference and nation. His 167 interception return yards are a new single-season program record. Beauchemin continued to load up the stat sheet with 41 total tackles on the year to go with one forced fumble and one blocked field goal.
Also a member of the Dinos standout defensive unit, Reid continued to be a force for the Scarlet & Gold. The fourth-year linebacker moved to more of an edge rusher role this season and didn’t miss a beat, racking up a career-high four sacks. He also nearly doubled his previous career best in tackles for loss with 7.5 this year on 30 total tackles overall – 20 of which were solo. Reid also made quite the statement on the Dinos’ first defensive possession of the season, recovering a fumble on the third play of the year. He also added one forced fumble this season.
Britton gets the all-star nod after a breakout season for the Dinos’ quick-strike offence. The third-year receiver hauled in 42 passes on the year – the second-most catches in Canada West this season and seventh-most nationally. That also is more than double either of his first two seasons as a Dino. Britton also racked up a career-high 661 yards – also ranking him second in the conference and fifth in U SPORTS. He finished the year with three touchdowns and had a game-high 181 yards receiving on just eight catches back in Week 3 at Saskatchewan.
