Canada vs. Greece live score, updates, highlights from 2024 Olympic men’s basketball game | Sporting News Canada
Two of world basketball’s burgeoning superpowers are due to clash with one another under the glow of the Olympic rings.
Canada and Greece meet in a clash of Group A titans, both hoping that this is the year where the tide turns and they finish Olympic play with a medal.
The Canadians are led by a pair of All-Star caliber guards, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray helming a deep and versatile squad that could be considered one of the most talent-laden in the tournament.
The Jordi Fernandez-helmed outfit has a litany of formidable NBA talent at its disposal, including Luguentz Dort, Dillon Brooks and RJ Barrett. Although the Canadians were unable to displace the U.S. in pair’s tune-up matchup with one another, they did capture impressive victories over Puerto Rico and, most notably, France, reaffirming their status as one of the Olympics’ true forces.
Canada has gone without a medal in basketball for a century. Could that change in 2024?
To be the best, you have to beat the best, however. And as far as NBA talent goes, few are as good as Greek megastar Giannis Antetokounmpo. “The Greek Freak” carried his nation to the promised land, vanquishing Slovenian supernova Luka Doncic in the process. Any other accomplishments have to be considered cherries on top for the two-time MVP, who leads an upstart Greek side littered with NBA players of season past, including Nick Calathes.
Who will win out? The basketball world waits with anticipation to figure out the answer to that question.
