Team Canada had a much-needed stretch of rest after dropping the first game of its pre-Olympics schedule to Team USA. Despite the loss, Canada was able to finalize the roster and showed some flashes of promise with a staple of NBA pros ahead of Friday’s game against France.

R.J. Barrett finished with 12 points, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks added 10. Canada was within six points late in the game, but it wasn’t enough to tie the game or take a late lead, thanks to the rhythm of Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis and Anthony Edwards, who combined for 35 of Team USA’s 86 points in the win.

Although Canada fell short, head coach Jordi Fernández focused on the positives, including 33 3-point attempts, and said that the “right spot” for critical shots was not there, according to a post-game interview from Team Canada.

Canada will have to move past the loss and look toward a matchup against France, who already have three games under their belt. Given where the Olympics are taking place, France will have a home-court advantage.
