Canada vs. France basketball live score, updates, highlights from 2024 Olympic men’s quarterfinal game | Sporting News

A spot in the semifinals is on the line Tuesday afternoon as Canada and France go head-to-head in the third of four basketball quarterfinals matchups on the docket for the 2024 Olympics.

Canada enters the knockout portion of the competition after a perfect 3-0 group stage. Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and R.J. Barrett, the Canadians took out Greece, Australia, and Spain to win Group A, arguably the toughest group in Paris.

France earned a second-place finish in Group B after going 2-1 in the group stage. The French team headlined by Victor Wembanyama defeated Japan and Brazil, but lost to Germany, dropping down a spot in the quarterfinals.

Canada is hoping to medal in men’s basketball for the first time since 1936 — the first year basketball was introduced on the Olympic stage. Meanwhile, France is aiming to take the next step to get back to the gold medal contest, where it lost to the United States at the last Olympics in Tokyo.

The winner of this quarterfinal contest faces Germany in a semifinal matchup on Thursday.
