Team Canada begins its quest to qualify for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 with a home-and-home with Nicaragua in the opening window of qualifying.
Canada touts a 14-man roster that includes several familiar faces, including former collegiate standouts like Kyle Wiltjer (Gonzaga) and Kyle Alexander (Tennessee). The coaching staff is led by former Indiana Pacers head coach Nate Bjorkgren, who leads a team of three assistants.
Canada has played in every FIBA AmeriCup, qualifying for the event on all 19 occasions.

When are the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers?
- Dates: Thursday, Feb. 22 to Monday, Feb. 26
- Teams: Venezuela, United States, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Canada, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Bahamas, Paraguay, Panama, Nicaragua, Mexico
The FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers is composed of three two-game windows to be played among sixteen teams throughout the next 12 months, beginning this week.
Canada begins play with a home-and-home series in the opening window with Nicaragua.
The three highest-placed teams from each group shall qualify for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 including the Host, Nicaragua.
Team Canada’s schedule at the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers
Team Canada is in Group C, along with Dominican Republic, Mexico and Nicaragua.
Since Nicaragua is the host country for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025, it will automatically qualify for the event. That leaves Canada, Mexico and the Dominican Republic vying for the two final spots from the group, awarded to the highest point-getters.
The Canadians kick off their qualifying games with a home-and-home against Nicaragua in the opening window.
