Canada dismiss head coach Pubudu Dassanayake ahead of T20 World Cup | ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, 2024

In a perplexing move, Cricket Canada have removed their coach, Pubudu Dassanayake just days before the T20 World Cup

Shockingly, just days before the opening of their T20 World Cup campaign, Cricket Canada have sacked its head coach, Pubudu Dassanayake. Dassanayake has been in his role for the last two years, even spearheading the side to the T20 World Cup through the Americas T20 Regional Final.

Under his tutelage, Canadian cricket have come a long way to reclaiming the ODI status en route to the 2023 ODI World Cup qualifiers. Not just that, they have also gained promotion to CWC League 2, where they sit pretty at the top of the table.

As per Cricbuzz reports, the Sri Lankan-born was informed on May 22, just a week prior to the start of the showpiece event in the United States of America and the Caribbean. The reports added that a letter expressing dissatisfaction with the Sri Lankan coach was circulated in the dressing room. While players didn’t agree to it, Cricket Canada found enough evidence to oust Dassanayake.

Canada will open their tournament against the hosts USA at Dallas on June 2 (6 AM IST).
