Canada Day celebrations today in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows

The sun will shine on Canada Day in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows – at least part of the time.

The Environment Canada weather forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud on July 1, with a high of 22 C, while the forecast from each city’s communications department calls for fun.

Thousands are expected at Pitt Meadows Canada Day celebrations at Spirit Square, which kick off at 8:30 a.m. with the Pitt Meadows Lions Club pancake breakfast, until 10:30 a.m.  At 9 a.m., the entertainment begins with the fifth annual Show and Shine event, an Artisan Alley with plenty of local vendors, as well as a kid’s zone full of children’s games and activities.

Dog lovers will be sure to want to visit the dog show at 9:15 a.m., with prizes given out for the best dressed, best trick, most charismatic, and waggiest tail.

Live entertainment will be available on the main stage until 2 p.m.

The morning festivities are in Pitt Meadows, while Maple Ridge’s Canada Day kicks off at noon and runs until 6 p.m.

This year’s free celebrations will feature four entertainment stages, a 224 Street Party, a climbing wall, a Kids Zone, food trucks, and more.

There will be a Kids Zone with a games area including face painting, inflatable obstacles, and a tot hockey rink. There will be a Monster Foam party and the Rock Wall to climb.

Eat Street will be showcasing a variety of food trucks catering to diverse tastes, and there will be a variety of vendors and community stations.
