Alouettes extend wide receiver Austin Mack’s deal 4 years | CBC Sports

The Montreal Alouettes have signed all-star wide receiver Austin Mack to a four-year contract extension, the Canadian Football League club announced Tuesday.

The deal is set to keep the 26-year-old with the team through the 2028 season.

Mack recently returned to the league-leading Alouettes after a stint with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. He had three receptions for 32 yards in his CFL season debut on Sunday, a 21-17 victory over the Edmonton Elks.

Mack had 78 receptions for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season in 2023, helping Montreal win the Grey Cup.

He gained more than 100 yards in a game five times over 17 regular-season outings. Mack finished fifth in the league in receiving yards.

The six-foot-two 205-pound native of Fort Wayne, Ind., was named an East Division and CFL all-star last season.

Als could clinch playoff spot without playing

They’re idle, but the Montreal Alouettes could still cement a CFL playoff berth this week.

Montreal (10-1) would secure an East Division post-season spot if the Ottawa Redblacks (7-2-1) defeated the B.C. Lions (5-6) on Saturday.

The Alouettes would also punch their playoff ticket if Ottawa and B.C. tied and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (5-6) beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-5-1) on Sunday.

Montreal can’t fall lower than third in the East Division based upon Hamilton’s 2-9 record. The Alouettes could only be denied a post-season berth by way of a crossover.

However, according to the CFL, an Ottawa victory over B.C. would eliminate the possibility of a crossover affecting Montreal.
