A-State LB Melique Straker projected to be picked in 2024 CFL Draft

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – More than a few Arkansas State standouts are playing in the Canadian Football League. Another Red Wolf is on the radar.

Melique Straker is projected to be picked in the 2nd Round of the 2024 CFL Draft. CFL.ca has Straker to Hamilton at 16th overall. 3DownNation predicts the linebacker goes to Winnipeg at 20th overall. The Ontario native is 17th on the latest CFL Scouting Bureau rankings.

Straker recorded 216 tackles in 3 seasons with the Red Wolves. He also had 17 tackles for a loss, 4 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, & 2 interceptions. One of his INTs was a 87 yard pick-six in the 77-31 win over Texas State in 2023.

There’s currently 6 former Red Wolves on CFL rosters: Omar Bayless (Hamilton), Kyle Wilson (Hamilton), Kivon Bennett (Montreal), Cody Grace (Calgary), Money Hunter (Ottawa), and Justin McInnis (British Columbia).

The 2024 CFL Draft starts Tuesday at 7:00pm.
