Tiger-Cats name longtime Blue Bombers executive Ted Goveia general manager | CBC News

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have named Ted Goveia as general manager, the Canadian Football League club announced Thursday.

Goveia, from Burlington, Ont., spent the last 10 seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, most recently as senior assistant GM and director of player personnel.

He replaces Ed Hervey, who joined the Edmonton Elks as GM last month.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Ted as our new general manager,” said president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer in a news release from the Tiger-Cats. “Ted’s extensive knowledge, leadership and experience, combined with his championship pedigree, make him a tremendous addition to our organization. We are confident that his vision will help us achieve our ultimate goal of bringing another Grey Cup to Hamilton.”

Hamilton finished fourth in the CFL East Division at 7-11 last season, ending a run of five straight playoff appearances.

The Blue Bombers appeared in five straight Grey Cup games, winning titles in 2019 and 2021, with Goveia playing a key role in the team’s football operations.

Before joining Winnipeg, he was director of Canadian scouting for the Argonauts from 2010 to 2012 and the team’s director of player personnel in 2013.

“I’m honoured to be given this opportunity with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats,” said Goveia in a news release. “Having grown up in the area, I understand how much the Tiger-Cats mean to this community. I’d like to thank Scott Mitchell, Bob Young, Stelco, and the Hamilton Sports Group, along with Orlondo Steinauer, Matt Afinec, and the entire Ticats organization, for their trust and belief in me. I’m incredibly excited to get started.”

The Ticats said Goveia will be officially introduced at a press conference at 12 p.m. ET Friday at Tim Hortons Field.
