New details have emerged from the talks between U.S. president-elect Donald Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the heels of the former’s recent threat of imposing a 25% tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico.

“We are told that when Trudeau told President-Elect Trump that new tariffs would k*ll the Canadian economy, Trump joked to him that if Canada can’t survive without ripping off the US to the tune of $100 billion a year, then maybe Canada should become the 51st state and Trudeau could become its governor,” @CollinRugg posted on social-media site X, quoting a report from Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy, citing “two people who were at the table (during their meeting.)”

“We discussed many important topics that will require both Countries to work together to address, like the Fentanyl and Drug Crisis that has decimated so many lives as a result of Illegal Immigration, Fair Trade Deals that do not jeopardize American Workers, and the massive Trade Deficit the U.S. has with Canada,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social Saturday.

Trudeau thanked the incoming president.

“I look forward to the work we can do together, again,” Trudeau said in the post that included a picture of the two leaders sitting at a table and smiling together.
