CHL beats USA 3-2 in second game of 2024 Prospects Challenge

The Canadian Hockey League Prospects beat the top prospects from the United States on Wednesday 3-2 at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. With the win, the CHL Prospects beat the United States of America Hockey National Team Development Program two games to none, and 9-3 when it came to goals for and against. On Tuesday, Canada clobbered the United States 6-1 from Canadian Life Place in London, Ontario.

In Thursday’s game, the CHL broke a 2-2 tie with one minute and 12 seconds left in the third period. Victoria Royals centre Cole Reschny scored from the slot. Right winger Justin Carbonneau of Levis, Quebec, and left winger Malcolm Spence of Mississauga, Ontario picked up the assists. Reschny plays for the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League, Charbonneau plays for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Junior Hockey League, and Spence plays for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. It was interesting that all three of Canada’s junior hockey leagues were involved in the game-winning goal.

Two Canadians had a multi-point game. They were Moncton Wildcats centre Caleb Desnoyers of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec and Spence. Desnoyers had one goal and one assist for two points, and Spence, who had two assists. The other Canadian goal scorer was centre Michael Misa of Oakville, Ontario, who plays for the Saginaw Spirit.
