South Africa and India are set to clash in a four-match T20I series, kicking off on Wednesday, November 8, at Durban’s Kingsmead Stadium.

The South African team arrives with momentum, having recently secured a 2-0 Test series victory over Bangladesh on their home soil. Their last T20I outing was against Ireland in Abu Dhabi in late September, where the series ended in a 1-1 draw.

India, meanwhile, is coming off a 3-0 home Test series loss to New Zealand. This squad will be different from the squad that played that Test series. This T20I side last played against Bangladesh in October, winning the three-match series 3-0.

South Africa vs. India 1st T20 team news

Four members of the South African squad who were a part of their historic 2-0 Test series victory in Bangladesh last month have been named in the T20I squad for the upcoming series. In the T20 World Cup final XI from 2024, only Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, and Tristan Stubbs appeared in matches against the West Indies in Trinidad in August or Ireland in Abu Dhabi in September; these players will also feature in the upcoming match against India.

However, the South African team will be missing some of their standout players. This includes pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, and wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, who will not be part of the squad.

South Africa predicted XI: Aiden Markram (c), Reeza Hendricks, Ryan Rickelton, Tristian  Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Donovan Ferreira, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Ottneil Baartman, Lutho Sipamla

India are expected to stick with the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. Samson silenced all questions about his spot in the T20I lineup by delivering a blistering century as an opener in the recent game against Bangladesh. India’s middle order looks strong, featuring powerful hitters like Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh.

However, with injuries sidelining Riyan Parag and Shivam Dube, there’s an opportunity for another debutant Ramandeep Singh to step in. Arshdeep Singh remains the only bowler from India’s T20 World Cup squad against South Africa to feature in this lineup. Another debutant bowler and left-arm pacer Yash Dayal may get a chance to make his debut in this match.

India predicted XI: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Yash Dayal
