Bearkats sign 7-foot Canadian big man for 2025-26 – Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston men’s basketball coach Chris Mudge recently announced the addition of prep standout Matt Dann, who signed Wednesday to play for the Bearkats in the 2025-26 season.

Dann is coming to Huntsville from Fort Erie International Academy, which is a Canadian prep basketball powerhouse.

A 7-foot center from Oakville, Ontario, Dann possesses a tremendous upside and mobility. He also brings an instant defensive presence with his ability to block shots.

“We’re excited about the impact Matt will have in our program and the talent he can bring to the team,” Mudge said. “He comes from a top-level program and we are thrilled to welcome him to our Bearkat family.”

Following an impressive junior season, Dann was named to the Bio Steel All-Canadian team as well as Team Ontario. This past summer, Dann helped lead the U18 Canadian basketball team to a bronze medal in the FIBA Americup.

His most dominant performance came in a 93-54 win over Puerto Rico, where Dann finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 21 minutes while shooting a perfect 7 of 7 from the floor.

Dann selected the Bearkats over Oregon, Eastern Kentucky, Valparaiso and Canisius.
