Men’s Golf Set to Compete in Inaugural Canadian Collegiate – Kent State Golden Flashes

The Kent State men’s golf team heads north to Canada for their second tournament of the 2024-2025 season, taking part in the inaugural Canadian Collegiate. The tournament, in which the Flashes serve as a co-host, marks the first-ever Division I NCAA golf event held in Canada. Similar to last week’s tournament, the opening two rounds of the Canadian Collegiate will be contested on Monday before the final 18 holes are played on Tuesday. Kent State enters the competition after opening the season with a seventh-place finish at the Gopher Invitational last week.

• The Flashes will help make history as Monday’s opening rounds of the Canadian Collegiate will tee off the first official Division I NCAA golf event to ever take place in Canada.
• The individual stroke-play winner of the Canadian Collegiate will receive an exemption into the 2025 RBC Canadian Open. The top five finishers receive exemptions into the 2025 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship.
• In addition to head coach Jon Mills, the Kent State lineup features three Canadians, all of whom are from Ontario: Isaiah Ibit, Ben MacLean, and James Newton. 
• At the professional level, Canada is also well represented among former Flashes. Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes, and Corey Connors were all recently selected to compete in the Presidents Cup, marking the first time three Canadians have ever been chosen to compete for the international team in the competition.
• Jordan Gilkison returns to the lineup after leading the Flashes last week at the Gopher Invitational. The Ohio native opened his senior season with a tied ninth-place finish out of the field of 80 players, firing rounds of 69, 72, and 73 to finish 1-over-par.
• Ramiro Acevedo makes his first appearance in the Flashes’ lineup after a very successful individual appearance to open his season. The freshman from Argentina claimed first place at the Minnesota Golf Classic last weekend, leading the field of 109 with a score of 3-under-par.
• Another freshman looking to continue a strong start to the season is Isaiah Ibit. After opening his career with a top-20 finish at the Gopher Invitational last weekend, Ibit will hope to emulate another impressive performance competing in his home country.
