Penticton’s Gyro Park on Canada Day was packed with dozens of families.
The park was the site of a day’s entertainment, organized by the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association.
Starting the morning with yoga, live music and dance filled the hours. The Penticton Concert Band, Ari Neufeld and Beamer Wigley were just a few of the performers to take the stage.
Free bus service is available for all Penticton transit routes, and a free bike valet service at the park is also available, provided by the city.
The entertainment continues until 5 p.m. at Gyro Park, but the festivities aren’t truly finished until the fireworks show at the Lakeside Resort at 10 p.m.
An exclusion zone has been set up in the water around Okanagan Lake Park and the Lakeside Resort in order to keep people safe during the fireworks show.
The zone stretches from the outlet of Penticton Creek and past the Kiwanis Walking Pier out into the lake. No swimmers, boaters, paddle boarders or any other people are allowed in the area.
City officials recommend other locations that will be safe and have good views of the fireworks show, including anywhere along Okanagan Lake Beach and the lakeshore, Marina Way Park, Rotary Park, Lakawanna Park and Munson Mountain or other higher elevation areas.
All outdoor washroom facilities will be open and serviced until midnight.
