Vernon tennis player Vasek Pospisil’s participation at the National Bank Open came to an unfortunate end Wednesday night.
Pospisil, 34, was forced to retire from the premier Canadian tennis tournament Aug. 7 after sustaining a lower-body injury while facing the United States’ Sebastian Korda.
On Thursday, Pospisil voiced his disappointment in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Tough moment needing to retire from my match yesterday,” Pospisil wrote. “Not how I envisioned this tournament would go but the journey continues and I’ll be back healthy sooner or later.”
Pospisil did not go into detail about his injury in the post.
“As always, big thank you to the fans and for the support out there.. means a lot,” he wrote.
In doubles play alongside fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov, Pospisil lost 6-4, 6-3 to Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori of Italy in 62 minutes on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Pospisil is the second Canadian to withdraw from the National Bank Open due to injury, after Milos Raonic pulled out with a shoulder injury Tuesday night.
