What’s the cutline at the 2024 Canadian Open? Who’s going to miss the cut?

Little-known Englishman David Skinns, a 43-year-old Korn Ferry Tour graduate, shot one of the rounds of his life at the 2024 Canadian Open in Hamilton, Ontario on Thursday, with his first-round 62 all but guaranteeing him a place in the tournament at the weekend. World number three Rory McIlory will also fancy his chances of making it through, although the same cannot be said for 2023 Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson, among the bigger names in danger of missing the cut. There is, however, still plenty of golf to be played, with the last groups teeing off on Friday at 2:12 p.m. ET.

What are the cut rules at the 2024 Canadian Open?

As a “regular” PGA Tour event, the Canadian Open follows “regular” PGA Tour rules when it comes to the cut. That means that the top 70 ranked players – and ties – at the end of the second round compete in rounds three and four, with everyone else heading home.

As things stand, the projected cut line is at at even par, although that could change depending on the rest of play on Friday.

McIlory’s strong start in Canada

McIlory’s opening 4-under 66 means he will continue at the weekend barring a second-round disaster, while five-time PGA Tour winner Sam Burns will be even more confident after a superb 63 on Thursday. Netflix favourite Joel Dahmen is also in good shape after a 3-under start to the tournament.

After following up an opening 4-over 74 with a 71, world No. 12 Sahith Theegala (+5) will be going home early, while two-time major winner Johnson (+2) looks likely to suffer the same fate, unless something drastic happens on Friday afternoon.

World No 1 Scottie Scheffler, who on Wednesday saw all charges against him dropped after his arrest at the PGA Championship earlier this month, has opted out of this week’s event at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
