Your answers: What kids would name Toronto’s new WNBA team

We asked, you answered

The city of Toronto, Ontario, is getting a women’s professional basketball team.

What should the team be named?

That’s the question we asked you a few weeks ago when we first got wind of this news.

The official announcement was made on Thursday in a Toronto hotel.

Some famous people were there, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, rapper Drake and Toronto Raptors star Scottie Barnes.

The team — which has yet to be named — will begin playing in May 2026 and will be the Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) 14th team.

The expansion is part of an initiative by the WNBA to make the league more of a global phenomenon.

“It helps us reach new audiences and bring in new partners,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert told The Associated Press.

“The thing I love about going to another country is that the young girls and boys get to see professional basketball for women is important, too.”

As we wait for the team to hit the court in 2026, let’s take a look at some of the submissions kids sent us.
