Bismarck’s Weston Dressler joins CFL Hall of Fame, Class of 2024

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Bismarck’s Weston Dressler will join the Canadian Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2024. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 13.

Dressler graduated from Bismarck High School as a multiple-time All-State running back from the Demons. He rushed for 3,564 yards with 1,139 receiving yards and 79 touchdowns. He was the first athlete in WDA history to be First-Team All-State three seasons in a row. Weston capped his high school football career by being named the 2003 N.D. Gatorade Player of the Year.

He was also a standout in track and field, plus he started on the basketball team at BHS. Weston went into the Bismarck High Hall of Fame in 2014, and in 2016 he became a member of the N.D. Track & Field Hall of Fame.

Dressler moved on to play football at the University of North Dakota. He made an immediate impact becoming the first true freshman to play since Jim Kleinsasser. Weston graduated from UND in 2008. He set 19 school records and was named All-American 14 times. He finished with 7,072 all-purpose yards. He caught 243 passes for 3,382 yards and 38 touchdowns.

With prep and college production like that, you would assume professional football teams would be knocking down his door, but that was not the case. The Saskatchewan Roughriders gave Dressler a chance and his impact was immediate. Weston was the 2008 CFL Most Outstanding Rookie. He was a CFL All-Star in 2012 & 2013. He was a four-time CFL West All-Star and in 2013 Dressler and the Riders won the Grey Cup Championship. Weston caught a 26-yard fourth-quarter touchdown to help Saskatchewan beat Hamilton for the title.

Dressler played 11 CFL seasons with the Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His career stats are: 161 games played, 715 receptions for 10,026 yards and 61 touchdowns, 494 yards rushing with two touchdowns, 125 punt returns for 1,287 yards and three touchdowns, 36 kickoff returns for 718 yards, 404 total points.

In 2022, Weston was inducted into the Saskatchewan Roughriders Plaza of Honour.
