40 Players named on the U15 Canadian Prospect Team Class of 2024-25 – Tennis Canada

19 girls and 21 boys aged between 13 and 15 make up the cohort

[MONTRÉAL, QC] November 12, 2024 – On Tuesday, Tennis Canada announced that 40 young Canadians, 19 girls and 21 boys from six provinces, have been selected for the U15 Canadian Prospect Team’s Class of 2024-25. The program is designed to help track, monitor, support and develop young prospects, aged 10-14 years old with the goal of them one day graduating to the internationally renowned National Tennis Centre presented by Rogers (NTC).

“The U15 Canadian Prospect Team plays a key role in the development of our young talents by providing them with the resources and support they need to reach their full potential,” said Jocelyn Robichaud, Head of U15 Development at Tennis Canada. “We’re proud to be entering the program’s second full year, and we’re confident these young players will continue to impress us and produce positive results while they are with the program. The progress made by Canadian tennis is encouraging, and it’s motivating to see that it’s inspiring more young people to participate as we continue to grow our competitive pipeline.”

Athletes are selected for the U15 Prospect Team based on criteria including their technical, tactical, physical and mental skills and competitive results. The commitment of parents and coaches and their training environment are also determining factors. Although the program was officially launched in 2023, many of the nation’s top players, including Félix Auger-Aliassime, Milos Raonic, Eugenie Bouchard and Bianca Andreescu, benefited from similar structures before joining the NTC and progressing to the professional tours. In fact, the latest NTC class, announced in October, includes four players who were previously U15 Canadian Prospect Team athletes: Charlize Celebrini, Andrea Taylor, Andy Tchinda Kepche and Caden Colburne.

2024-25 COHORT KICKS OFF SEASON WITH CAMPS IN TORONTO AND MONTREAL

The 2024–25 cohort began its season with a series of camps in October. They were the first opportunity for the athletes to train and compete together, allowing them to focus on key aspects of their development under the guidance of Tennis Canada’s high-performance coaches. The first camp was held during the week of October 14 in Toronto, and two more were organized during the weeks of October 28 and November 4 in Montréal.

In 2025, Tennis Canada will invite members of the U15 Canadian Prospect Team to several more national camps to train, consolidate their technical foundations, target areas for improvement and take part in competition, networking and personal development opportunities. The camps are at no cost to the players, and the focus will be on creating a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment.
