4 Bombers named CFL all-stars
When it comes to Canadian football, they’re considered the “best of the best.”
Four members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been labelled some of the best in the league by the Canadian sporting press, CFL head coaches, and football fans after they were chosen for the roster of the CFL’s 2024 All-Star Team.
Bombers’ running back Brady Oliveria, offensive Tackle Stanley Bryant, Cornerback Tyrell Ford, and defensive end Willie Jefferson were the players from the Peg’ selected for the team, considered an honour in the league.
This is the second time Oliveria has made the team, leading the CFL in rushing and yards from scrimmage, amounting to 1,353 yards rushing and four touchdowns, alongside 476 receiving yards, a career-high according to a news release from the CFL club.
Bryant has been named to all-star teams eight times in the past and is the most decorated linesman in the CFL as a four-time Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman winner, also being named the club’s own Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman for a seventh time.
With an impressive 25 defensive tackles and a team-leading six quarterback sacks, Jefferson is taking to an all-star roster for a sixth time as he also managed to force a single fumble, snagged two loose balls, and managed to knockdown 10 passes.
Ford is taking to the all-star roster for the first time and was also named the CFL club’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player, leading the team with seven interceptions.
He was also one of the top players when it comes to defensive plays, with 74 on 51 defensive tackles, four special-teams tackles, and 12 pass knockdowns, which was the second-highest total in the CFL.
The blue and gold kickoff against their rivals the Saskatchewan Roughriders Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
