2024 CFL Week 5 Odds: Predictions and Analysis | Point Spreads

Week 5 of the Canadian Football League season looks to be a decent one, with a couple of good contests on the slate. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are the lone team without a blemish on their spread record. The ‘Riders are 3-0 against the spread (ATS) and straight-up on the season. Winnipeg is 0-4 straight-up and ATS, as the Blue Bombers have been favored in every game. That will again be the case this week. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are also 0-4 straight-up and ATS. Toronto at Saskatchewan could be the best game on the CFL schedule this week. It’s one of the more intriguing games if nothing else.

The 2024 CFL Week 5 odds see two road favorites and a double-digit favorite in Montreal.

Argonauts vs Roughriders

📍Location: Mosaic Stadium, Regina, Saskatchewan
⏰Day/Time:
📺Streaming: CFL+

The week starts with a solid contest, as Toronto is favored by 3 on the road at undefeated Saskatchewan. The total in the game is 49. The ‘Riders will be without quarterback Trevor Harris for the next six weeks. Harris has thrown for 872 yards and seven touchdowns in three games. He’ll be replaced by former Michigan Wolverines quarterback Shea Patterson, who is 4 of 10 passing this season.

Toronto’s Cameron Dukes has played well enough at quarterback, throwing five TDs and one interception in three games. Ka’Deem Carey leads the CFL in rushing yards, which has taken some of the pressure off Dukes.

The Roughriders may be 3-0, but a closer look at the team shows Saskatchewan has three victories over winless teams. They’ve beaten 0-4 Hamilton twice and also defeated winless Edmonton. Now, they’re playing 2-1 Toronto. Take Toronto -3 for one of your CFL picks this week.

Redblacks vs Blue Bombers

📍Location: Princess Auto Stadium, Winnipeg, MB
⏰Day/Time:
📺Streaming: CFL+

Nothing has gone right for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this season, who are 0-4 straight-up and ATS. The Blue Bombers have been favored every game and are 2.5-point favorites against Ottawa with a total of 46. Quarterback Zach Collaros is struggling with just 796 passing yards in four games. He hasn’t thrown a touchdown and has been intercepted four times. The running game isn’t doing a lot to pick up the slack.

Ottawa is 2-1 on the season, straight-up and ATS. The Redblacks covered the number in both home games and are 0-1 ATS on the road. Dru Brown has just three TD passes in three games for Ottawa, although the Redblacks have rushed the ball well.

The 2024 CFL Week 5 odds have the Bombers favored by just 2.5 points with a total of 46. These are the two lowest-scoring teams in the CFL but have to side with Winnipeg to break into the win column here.

Stampeders vs Alouettes

📍Location: Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal, Quebec
⏰Day/Time:
📺Streaming: CBS Sports Network

The CFL odds have the Alouettes favored by 10 with a total of 50.5. The Stampeders are 2-1 both straight-up and ATS. Calgary has played decent on defense, while the offense has done enough to pick up a couple of wins. Quarterback Jake Maier has been efficient for the Stampeders, which is what the team needs. He has just one interception and Dedrick Mills is running the ball fairly well.

Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo has eight touchdown passes and two interceptions on the season. The Alouettes are averaging 4.1 yards per rush, so they can do better there. Montreal is the only 4-0 team in the CFL and should become the lone 5-0 team after this weekend.

Laying double-digits is never easy in the CFL, although it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see the Alouettes roll here. The Stampeders have played pretty solid defensively to start the season and the under 50.5 could be the way to play this game.

Lions vs Tiger-Cats

📍Location: Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton, Ontario
⏰Day/Time:
📺Streaming: CBS Sports Network

The 2024 CFL Week 5 odds show British Columbia comes into this game as 5.5-point favorites with a total of 53.5. The Lions are 3-1 straight-up and 2-2 ATS. Three of British Columbia’s first four games have landed under the total. The Lions are getting saddled with high totals, which is again the case this week.

Hamilton is 0-4 straight-up and ATS while going 3-1 in totals. The Tiger-Cats have allowed the most points in the league, although the team is No. 3 in total defense. Hamilton is -5 in turnovers, which has played a part in its dismal showing so far this season.

It’s easy to want to take the over in a game where British Columbia quarterback Vernon Adams is throwing the ball. He leads the CFL in passing yards and is off to a great start. The total is on the high side, however, and will have to try the under in this game.
